What You Need Before Setting Up Face ID

Before you start, make sure:

  • Your iPhone supports Face ID
  • You already have a passcode set up
  • The front camera is clean
  • You’re in a well-lit area

Once you’re ready, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open Settings

Unlock your iPhone and open the Settings app from your home screen.

Step 2: Tap Face ID & Passcode

Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode.

If asked, enter your passcode to continue.

Step 3: Tap “Set Up Face ID”

On the Face ID screen, tap Set Up Face ID.

You’ll see instructions asking you to position your face inside the circle.

Step 4: Position Your Face and Start the Scan

Hold your iPhone in portrait mode and place your face inside the circle on the screen.

Slowly move your head in a circular motion so your iPhone can scan your face.

Step 5: Complete the Second Scan

After the first scan finishes, tap Continue.

Repeat the same process one more time to complete the second Face ID scan.

Step 6: Finish Face ID Setup

Once both scans are complete, tap Done.

Your Face ID is now set up and ready to use.
